وَالْعَادِيَاتِ ضَبْحًا

1. Allah takes an oath on the horses that run so hard that their breath can be heard.

Meccan or Medinese, consisting of 11 verses. In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful: [100:1] By the chargers, the Steeds that charge in attack and snort [with a], snorting — this being the [name of the] sound which they emit from inside them when they charge; [100:2] by the strikers, the Steeds that Strike fire [by way], of sparks, with their hoofs, when they gallop across rocky terrain by night; [100:3] by the dawn-raiders, the Steeds that make raids againSt the enemy at dawn at the hands of their riders, [100:4] raising.…

2. And He also takes an oath on the horses who, when their shoes strike the stones with force, sparks fly.

3. And He also takes an oath on the horses that raid the enemy at dawn.

4. And unsettle the dust by their running.

5. They then take their riders collectively into the midst of the enemy.

(the verb is supplemented to the noun [in the above instances] because it serves to explain the verbal acftion, in other words, wa’llati ‘adawna fa-awrayna fa-agharna, ‘by those that charge, then Strike Sharks, then raid’). [100:6] Verily man, the disbeliever, is ungrateful to his Lord, thankless, denying [the reality of] His graces, exalted be He, [100:7] and verily to that,…

6. Indeed, the human is hesitant of the goodness his Lord intends from him.

وَإِنَّهُ عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكَ لَشَهِيدٌ

7. And indeed, he is witness to the goodness he is hesitant in giving; he cannot deny it because of its clarity.

وَإِنَّهُ لِحُبِّ الْخَيْرِ لَشَدِيدٌ

8. And indeed, he is miserly with his wealth due to his extreme love for it.

[100:9] Does he not know that, when that which is in the graves, in the way of the dead, is ftrewn, when it is turned over and brought out, that is to say, [that when] they are raised, [100:10] and that which is in the breasts, the hearts, of disbelief or faith, is obtained, [when] it is re¬ vealed and examined,

9. Does this human, deceived by the worldly life, not know that when Allah will resurrect the dead from their graves and take them out of the earth to take them to account and requite them, that the matter will not be as he imagines?

إِنَّ رَبَّهُم بِهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّخَبِيرٌ

11. Indeed, their Lord will be aware of every matter of theirs on that day; none of the affairs of His servants will be hidden from Him, and He will requite them for that.
